Healers: Holistic Care For Women Of Color
DescriptionThis program explores varied approaches to the prevention and treatment of disease based upon simultaneously treating the body, mind and spirit. The primary health care system fails in seeing the relationship between service delivery and the cultural orientation and gender of its patients. Therefore, it facilitates sickness as opposed to healing. The program features a look at the Lumumba Health Institute in Atlanta, GA., which provides holistic treatments for African-American women with fibroid tumors, and the Betances Health Unit in New York, NY, which provides alternative treatments such as acupuncture and herbal medicine. Coordinating Producer: Debra J. Robinson of Purple Flower Films (Atlanta, GA).
