Description
This program looks at the work of citizen activists who use community television to challenge the mainstream news enterprise. What is "newsworthy" and who decides? It will also look at how this concept is changing as community television producers redefine the "news" as a practical means for social critique, resistance and democratic action. The show includes clips from "Reverse Press Conference" produced by Lynn Carrillo of Access Albuquerque in which newsmakers are questioned by the people who were subjects of their story. In "News Diaries" (part lll), the 8mm News Collective of Buffalo, NY tracks down the victims of yellow journalism and lets them tell their version of the story. Also featured are Todd Price and Luciano, active at Madison's access station WYOU, who had their camera footage confiscated by police during a demonstration in which environmentalist were arrested outside of Ladysmith, Wl. Some of the confiscated footage will be shown and there will be an update on their suit against the sheriff of Rusk County, Wl. Coordinating Producer: Barbara Lattanzi of Hallwalls and the 8mm News Collective (Buffalo, NY)
